Some good information here, and I fully agree that the single most important thing you can do is learn to push away from the table.
Beyond that, though, I think it is most important to make a permanent change in diet to a more healthy one of a reasonable size. I've seen far too many people diet, then gain it back, then diet again. Without that permanent change it does no good to lose weight just to gain it back and it is not a healthy way to live.
